Mourning Dove Symbolism

Channeled by Quornesha S. Lemon| Medium, Intuitive, Shaman, Certified Life Coach, Certified Reiki Master Teacher, Egyptian Healer, Certified Animal Reiki Master Teacher, Certified Crystal Reiki Master Teacher, Hoodoo Priestess and So much More|When seeing the Mourning dove in your waking life, dreams, and visions it is symbolic that peace is a necessity at this time in your life. The mourning dove requests that you remain peaceful and as calm as possible during any present transitions.

The Mourning dove requests that you laugh often and get out as much as possible or go within as much as possible. The Mourning Dove’s message is, this too, shall pass. When one cannot get over the loss of a loved one, the sign of a Dove will appear to allow further confirmation that your loved one has moved on and suggests that you should mirror the same, continue forward with your own life.

The Mourning dove is symbolic of providence. Know that your prayers are being heard and answered to when you see the Mourning dove. Know that the angels are watching over you. You may have suffered a form of pain in your life when you see the mourning dove in your waking life or dreams, visions, and synchronicity. Do not fear that you are alone.

You are reminded that there are many others going through whatever you are facing during this time of your life.

Know that whatever choices you have made, that does not seem to be working out on the surface will soon find a resolution so that you can move forward.

We are all here for a reason, do move forward in your life so that other lessons can come about. Ask that you move forward from any present situations or lessons that do not serve you. Including, moving forward into new Environments, where your energy can serve you and your purpose the most.

The ascended masters will like to balance your life at this time with some blessings and rewards. The Angels are praying on your behalf, and so are those who love you. Know that you are cared for in many ways, do not be afraid to accept the help from those that love and care for you and continue to move on from any situations that do not yield, even when you knock or ask.

Doves appear at a time when grief is necessary. You cannot keep going as you were, without first letting go of the pain in your mind, heart, and soul.

When we are grieving it’s impossible to love at the same time. Because sadness is present in some way, so we must release it. Doves can symbolize the fear we are feeling in regards to the afterlife. (Worries if loved ones are at total peace)

You must not worry about this because it is as if you are not accepting what is. The inevitable cannot be altered. It’s natural and pain filled but it must be experienced.  When a soul accomplishes a mission, it is done.

Have you ever noticed how sometimes small babies or children pass away? I believe that it was certainly time for them to be in this world, but that they were reincarnated to finish what seemed impossible in the life before. Such a small task had to be done. That is why the time seemed to be cut short.

In reverse, sometimes loved ones only live until mid’ 30’s or 50’s and so on. The purpose is because their mission was served. Are you going to accept what is?

We can only cherish what was, not what we wish or is to be. Because it has not happened yet.

When we are always so filled with light, a time will come when we will have to grieve what is lost.

Grieve along the way. That’s what the Dove asks of us.

Also, the dove asks us to be open-hearted. Even though we have been hurt to place our walls down just a bit, and allow love to flow. Love is the highest energy of all to me. Because without it from someone we cannot find it in something. Something cannot replace the love a person can give you.

Doves symbolize the life of those who have passed on. It is a sign for you to move on. To pick yourself up and carry on. As their earthly purpose has been fulfilled. If that is in reference to a job, career or friendship rest assured that higher powers are assisting you with letting this go.

We can learn many great lessons. But we can never grow if we don’t open up to the possibilities of life.

Release your mourning so you can move on.

Affirm: Peace is welcome here!

Walking in parks with trees will help you heal and feel closer to the dove’s symbolism. To hear it’s sound is confirmation that you are in fact letting go of what was by accepting it. And the assurance that it’s safe to grieve, let it out.

To simply see them passing by is further sign that you have accepted their passing. Your lesson may be to love yourself. Or to allow others to love you only then can you welcome a love that is personal.

I experienced a couple of mourning doves appearing near my patio a couple of days ago. They were kissing so it appeared and they stayed a while and left. The next day only one showed up and he was coooing he returned today and did the same thing. I googled the meaning of the totem for the doves….. Today I tried further research and found your meaning. I was spot on ! My husband passed in January of this year and it has been challenging to grieve and even more difficult to move forward….. However, this really blessed my soul. I cried because I was just telling a friend this morning that I was afraid to allow myself to be vulnerable to love again…. I just want to thank you!! I would also like a consultation.

      2. I experienced 3 mourning doves snuggling, kissing in a playful way. They were sitting on a bench in my backyard when I was enjoying my morning coffee. I found it odd that there were 3 and not the traditional 2 that are usually spoken about. Any thoughts?
I have been transitioning into a totally new path after a very difficult life experience. I appreciate the insights of this article and thank you for sharing. It has spoken to me in a heart opening way!

  2. This really speaks to me. A Mourning dove couple had a nest right outside my kitchen window in our new home. Soon after my son was diagnosed with cancer and 6 months later he had passed away. I always felt the Mourning Doves were messengers. After my son passed watching the couple and their babies helped me work through the grieving process for my own baby.

On August 19th. I saw two mourning doves sitting outside of my boyfriends house. At first, i thought nothing of it, except they would not fly away as we walked pass them. Next morning, I woke up suddenly from my sleep with a vision of the two doves in my mind, then i knew they were sent for me to see from the spirit world.

  5. After experiencing an unusual amount of grief and loss over the past several years (pets, friends, and close relatives), I then lost my mother. When I was trying to meditate, I kept noticing the couple of mourning doves outside, with their plaintive calls that seemed to express my grief so eloquently. The next year I lost my father and grandmother and I’ve recently noticed the symbolism of more mourning doves hanging around. I finally looked into this more and found your site. Thank you, after a lot of transitions in my life, his is what I needed to hear this year.

  6. I have noticed a couple of mourning dove couples in my neighborhood over the past year. My husband passed away 7.5 years ago and although I dated someone for 4 years we broke up a year ago and I must confess I was not yet over my husband’s departure. The doves have been hanging around in my backyard for some time along with lots of other birds and 2 hummingbirds one red one green. Last year the hummingbirds nested above some chimes at the rear corner of the house. Yesterday I discovered the doves were building a nest and today she is sitting in it! Right outside the kitchen window in the top of a trio of a redwood basket. Any insight is welcome. Thank you and sending you many blessings for your sharing of this gift.

  7. Also of interest the minister’s former man I dated departed there was the sound of hundreds of birds in my backyard. On 3 of the lines sitting shoulder to shoulder were about 300 of my favorite red winged blackbirds chirping loudly. I discovered that particular bird on a housewarming trip with my husband years ago. This was the 1st time ever seeing them in my neighborhood.

  12. Hey this post really helped me! I’ve been seeing so many in the past year. I quite stupidly, honestly thought they were called morning doves and as Google corrected me my heart strings were absolutely pulled. I was already on my way to see if these birds had been a form of symbolism in grief topic for a while. Then I see mourning dove. This article really confirmed the beliefs I’ve been trying so hard to internalize when I’m feeling lost. I lost my childhood best friend almost 2 years ago now and I’ve always felt like she was checking in on me in a way. reading the part about the life long bond between the birds that impacts the last bird standing, so to speak, really hit close to home. Figuring out growing up and grief is a difficult task a majority of the time and I find small comforts in signs that keep me going forward 🙂

  14. Thank-you for this post …
I had three mourning doves visit me in my garden while I was soaking in the moment.
I thought it unusual to see three, especially as they were just siting directly in my garden, exposed on the ground.
Quite a special for minutes ❤️🙏

  16. My husband passed away last month. When I got home today from handling his affairs, I saw a dead mourning bird laying on the roof of his car. I dont know what it means to find it dead, but it looked so peaceful. I’m hoping it meant that he isnt in pain anymore and to know that sign is from him because it was on his car. Would love to hear any thoughts about this.

I am grateful that I found your column on Morning Doves as I found comfort in understanding. I’ve recently had 3 important beloved people pass away and I am grieving. There is a mature Pear tree outside my kitchen window. I first noticed the doves because there were six of them. This coincides with the 3rd death – my baby sister. They appeared slowly since last August when my dear cousin with whom I grew up. Late September my best friend of 30 years died in his sleep. Slowly the doves came every day. Sometimes there are two, sometimes more but they appear even in the cold weather. I now greet them, say a prayer and thank them.
I was very touched reading your explanation, that it was the spirits of the beloved departed letting me know that they had moved on and that I should do the same. I cried because these souls were still taking care of me, protecting me. Thank you very much for enlightening me.

Yesterday morning, I heard the mourning dove crooning closer than usual. It woke me up, and I saw her looking into my window. That night, I had a panic attack, and I cried, and I’m still crying today, but I find myself able to feel God around my in the whispers of wind through the trees. This was a beautiful thing to read in this time of learning to love myself and not to fear the future. Thank you, I send love and bright blessings to you.

  21. I recieved a visit from a mourning dove this morning. It landed on my balcony and stayed there for a bit. It looked at me as I approached the glass door and didn’t get startled or budge. After a few minutes it flew off. I decided to look up the meaning and found your site. I have not suffered any losses that I am aware of but I am grateful that I fell upon your site as this may be in preparation for what’s to come. I was told a few years back that I would suffer a loss in June. Last June came and went but here we are in the month of June. Thank for your thorough explanation.

Reading such a beautiful n meaningful article . I have been seeing Mourning Doves since last 5/6 years. They seem to follow me even if I have shifted thrice in another place . Only sad part is this time the couple birds made nest n gave 2 eggs. Baby doves were there through Out yesterday but it seems both have been devoured by a black cat. I have 8 dogs so couldn’t keep them inside but feeling very sad that both babies are not there anymore

  24. I am truly appreciative of this interpretation. My life has been wrought with intermittent turmoil and I’ve struggled to live a happy, peaceful life due to it. I’ve found myself drifting into the darkness again recently. I was visited by a praying mantis last night before bed, it seemingly communicated that I needed to turn in and meditate(which is something I have always struggled to do). So, I awoke early and sat on my porch, listening to the morning birds, while attempting to meditate. As I did, a cawing crow flew over and moments later a mourning dove landed in a tree directly in front of me. I quickly researched the symbolism of the mourning dove and came across your beautiful interpretation. It resonated with me on a personal level. I really needed to hear these things right now to set my mind in a direction of light. Thank you so much for this.

  26. I’ve been grieving terribly for over a year now. I am mourning dove flew into our window and landed on my car and died. What could this possibly mean? It is so the opposite of a morning dove cooing and telling me that my love one is at peace now

It could also mean that someone is calling you to join them in the afterlife. Stay in the light and focus on areas you’re blessed in. ♥ -Quornesha
